[ (oh, more tea!!! that's going in the tea drawer!) ]
Believe it or not.
[ she has a sweet tooth, so it's not even close to her preferences in taste. one thing she'd want to get rid of though, for the greater good: gunpowder tea. just like crappy movies, they take up too much-unneeded space in the world. completely unnecessary.
but as robby takes his cookies, makima will sit by him and just watch. ]
Was there something you wanted to talk about, Robby?
[ Ah, here's the moment. Robby's eyes flit from the cookie to Miss Makima, a small 'yeah' as he swallows, makes way for proper words. ]
I uh, remembered you said you help with control back home--people have abilities back there? That's normal?
[ He pauses, waits on confirmation or a correction before continuing. Her job was some kind of public safety job with the government, he remembers. Something like that. ]
[ either he needs help (which might be more on the side of unlikely, robby has little to no power to speak of), or someone's been talking to him. considering . . . well, sunny, she's not surprised if the web of unnecessary human concern has spread wider.
well, look at the bright side! she's such a mystery, finally some people are starting to investigate. crossing her legs and straightening her back properly to face him and speak, one of her dogs sit with all their weight back for a petting. she does just that, stroking between the dog's ears and giving it the heaven it deserves. ]
There was pest control and squad control, yes. Which one interests you?
Well, [ she starts, taking a dog in her arms to exact the heavenly belly scritches. tiramisu, the dog, rolls onto her legs cleanly to give her his belly. such a fuzzy wuzzy belly. ] pest control eliminates active dangers to society. Monsters, evils, [ she pauses to get the wording right, ] suffering as a whole.
[ she wants them all gone. if not in that world, then this one. ]
Public Safety is separated by divisions. Within these divisions, squads. Plenty of young people show up to take on the job, but I can say with certainty: all of them are far from prepared.
They are trained by our veterans, and I am the one who gives the order.
[ Okay, so pest control both sounds...like something he could have figured (she's said her world isn't too unlike this one, so monsters isn't a weird thing to hear), but it still sounds like more. There's a lot to it, and Robby puts it aside, isn't sure if the details are quite relevant about her world than Miss Makima herself.
Robby glances at the dog, entirely separate from any and all conversations other than belly love, to back to the woman. ]
So...is what you can do normal? Or what other people can do there? Make agreements--like you and Mob. Kinda like a bond.
[ she now has her eyes set on robby, despite her fingers doing a very satisfying scritchy-scratch, enough that tiramisu’s hind leg begins to kick. ]
The very way we share abilities and work together as a team is by creating these contracts.
[ a twisted truth. but that only brings makima’s smile to an amused curve, eyes going so big that they look curious when she asks: ]
Are you interested in something like that?
[ she knows it’s not the case, and he has very little to offer that he doesn’t already give her, free of charge. if anything, it’s to simply humor the conversation. ]
I talked about it with someone. [ Not a lie, and he looks down in a slightly sheepish way, back at her intentionally, deliberately--she may or may not notice, that he's thought about what he'd say, do, as he speaks. ] I know everyone's from a different place, but I don't know a lot of people who know about magical contracts.
[ His expression is amused, brushed by the inexperience he approaches the conversation. An awkwardness not entirely forced. ]
But you should be careful what you agree to. Can it go bad?

[ He can infer on the side of pest control, but--it doesn't paint a clear picture, anyway. And a clearer picture is what he came here for. ]
