[ And Robby will be the good boy who goes to the location given, his arrival time depending on how public or out of the way the spot is. It's likely a little early-ish either way, by about five minutes at most, entering inside to see if Miss Makima's already there or not.
[ makima is never late to a party. or a meeting! not unless there’s an unexpected call she has to take, but she’s never that busy here in trench. maybe she should change that and make her own little business? oh, who knows.
once robby enters, bright red hair waves for him and flags him down to the table for two she’s snagged. ]
[ He's a smile when he spots her, coming over to her and the table at her attention; a quick 'Hi' as he's there, taking his seat at the other side of the table. ]
Sorry I panic-texted. [ He remembers this isn't meant to be about Mob, but, you know--it's not every day you get asked to meet a woman at a tea shop, and though he likes Miss Makima (who wouldn't?), or because of it, Robby feels the need to say something. Knows at least to go on with, a smile on his face and in his eyes: ] But how you been doing?
[ oh, robby. don't you worry about that. makima dips her head and murmurs reassuringly: it happens. who doesn't worry about good boys! just look at her (cries in narrator). but once robby takes a seat, makima folds her hands and crosses her legs, pushing a scrambled little "menu" of sorts out from her side of the table. ]
Well. Thank you. [ but, ] But I have been a little antsy lately.
[ He gives a small muttered 'thanks' at the menu being pushed over to his side, caught on the start of her words. Words that easily distract him from said menu, blinking up at her while his hands touch both sides of the sheet. Curious. ]
I was a busy woman back in Tokyo. I enjoy having some time off, but—
[ it's a little too much, even when she's baking and watching movies and plotting against mariana. she's read everything she could in the archives. now it's just . . . meh! ]
You know what they say about too much of a good thing.
[ Huh. He can get that, though his life wasn't really busy outside of muscle and karate training before the tournament. But there's a structure that's missing from Trench, regardless. ]
[ hell yeah they asked for tea AND NOW THEY HAVE THEIR TEA. tea person will get a 'thanks' when they put down his tea as Robby is a Good Boy.
But as for dojo tea? Robby definitely makes an exaggerated grimacing face. ]
Once Miyagi-do put on a kata show at a festival, and the other dojo came along and interrupted it by putting on their own show.
[ A beat, and with a conceding head tilt. ] They had louder music and more flash, so they stole it.
[ Yep. Robby had been pretty mad at the time, but now he just huffs, wearing something like a fond smile. ]
The other dojo here, uh-- well, maybe you've heard of Johnny Lawrence. He runs Eagle Fang, and he's my dad. Him and Mister LaRusso have an old school rivalry.
[ any normal person would chuckle or something, but makima only stares with the fixed, pleasantry smile while sipping her tea. once she sets the cup down, her hand props her chin up. ]
Johnny . . . [ hmm . . . !!! ] I think we might have spoken once or twice.
[ mostly because he was a shitty dad, apparently! ]
[ It's a normal (non-)reaction, right? From Miss Makima. Where she's a constant pleasant smile, and you know, some people are just....like this here.
(Weird. He'll describe it as something missing about her, in the future, to Mister Toguchi. It's not meant unkind.) ]
...it's better, [ is what he'll settle on, though Miss Makima may be able to pick up on the uncertainty. ] Um, what my dad remembers from back home isn't the same as me and Mister LaRusso. But--I think they're working things out.
[ Aiming for optimism here. But he pauses, and thinks to ask, with a certain care in the question: ]
[ something within her twitches uncomfortably. did she have a family? in truth, she didn’t, and in truth it’s what she wanted most in the world, to the point that her attempts and lengths to reach a semblance to that was . . . not right.
not right in the eyes of a human, at least. makima sees no bad in it. even when something happens to be particularly evil, she knows it to be the only, genuine necessary evil of the world. her.
there is something deep within her eyes that changes. shifts unpleasantly. but her smile remains and masks it. to further brush it off, she pulls her omni from her pocket, flips through some pictures— and presents him with many, many pictures of her huskies. ]
[ If there's any room to see the shift, Robby won't remark on it; just as he doesn't when the answer given is a series of photos of dogs (an answer that does get an immediate 'Whoa' because--okay, he's seen them, but still. that a lot of dogs). ]
--They came from the ocean with you?
[ Aren't some of these the same ones she has at home...?? ]
They're quite obedient, and I dedicated a lot of time before my job to train them well. [ and huskies are pretty defiant! for people. rangling dogs is a favorite pastime of her's. ] We go on walks almost twice a day, depending on the mood.
Why not a dog training job, then? You can fit more dogs in your life.
[ Said with voice that vibrates with amusement. Look at all these dogs! ] I heard there's a dog that can go anywhere and deal with trouble here. Hell hounds? Bet you can handle them.
she's already had one he's not wrong, but makima's only response to that is a telling smile. ]
I've been waiting to run into one. [ she just. hasn't! yet. sneaky and slippery little buggers. ] But it's another addition to the family I've had my sights on.
[ makima’s smile at this point becomes toothy and odd— maybe pleased, but it was a strange sot of smile in a way that it wasn’t so perfect. maybe that has been the most natural smile she’s given until today. ]
You’re not wrong. A friend of mine mentioned a dog café to me in a similar manner.

One of my favorite public stops. I'll see you there, Robby.

Can't be worse than a dojo rivalry. [ A beat. ] Actually wouldn't mind seeing a tea shop version.
