STATISTICS

Character Name: makima
Character Canon: chainsaw man
Character Age: n/a (her concept is old as conflict but her body and mind are in the 30s)
Canon Point: chapter 96
Link to History: here
Skills:
she is a perfectionist in much of everything she does, a cinephile (so plenty of knowledge from movies old and new), and manipulation of all non-powered varieties.

Abilities:
domination: makima is the control devil, a physical reprisentation of the fear of control and considered one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. she can not only have total control over herself, but can extend her control to beings she believes inferior to her, from altering their personality to controlling their memories to forcing them to do as she wishes, and god dang so on. the sky is the limit and this is super op. people have been known to break free from her spells, so playing that out is totally plausible! i will always contact players before doing this and will always respect boundaries + opt outs!

force manipulation: makima can manipulate force and space across a distance or close ranged, usually with a finger bang that may open holes in her targets, or crushing her hands together. most of these require some sort of sacrifice, be it blood or human.

devil enhancements: enhanced strength, sense of smell, speed and regeneration through blood consumption. it should also be noted that in makima's case, her sense of smell is dog-like, and she has trouble distinguishing faces.

Curse Mark: skala
CHARACTERIZATION

FORMATIVE EXPERIENCES:
  • FIRST EVENT: - MAKIMA'S CHILDHOOD. we are never canonly shown how makima grew up, but we are given hints through character dialogue! and what we hear about how makima was raised is not good. being found and taken in by the japanese government changed who makima would be shaped into and explains why she is how she is. the government is who taught her how to treat people as disposable pawns. like dogs, as the government board proper calls her employees, and reminds makima to "not get attached" (to which she wears an odd expression that i could only read as repressed disappointment). makima has also explicitly mentioned finding the tokyo bigwigs "scary" and wishing not to have a meeting with them, instead wanting to have her lunch in peace and reminiscing about the evening before when she shared happy hour with her employees. by the government, makima is treated as a means, a necessary evil collared by the state— and her manipulative nature is heightened to reach a goal of creating a "perfect world" in hopes to have something, anything, close to a family. because growing up with these guys, who taught her that a perfect smile, a believable act, power and manipulation are what you need to make the world a better place, is what kept her the farthest away from what she truly yearns for. she has become a monster because of them, and in her canon setting it thus made it impossible to change or be anything else.

  • SECOND EVENT: - MAKIMA MEETS DENJI. makima goes after denji because she really sees the devil that made a contract with him— pochita, or chainsaw man, the "hero of hell" and the only devil capable making other devils disappear from the world— as her only possible equal. the one being that may have the power to defeat her, but also, a being that can be used as a tool to make the world as perfect as she invisions. makima yearns for equal relationships unbound by fear or superiority, and the only possibility she sees that in is chainsaw man. thus, it's all she sees! when denji asks her to weakly hold him as he falls the very first time they meet, she gives him a hug, and it's the only time we see her smile genuinely warm with her face pressed to his heart (where pochita is). this meeting would bring a cascade of events into happening that can only be described as: makima is actually a bit of a crazy fangirl that creates high expectations for who she thinks is her "beloved" when in actuality he is nothing she idealizes. makima can be seen quite jealous and upset toward the end of her arc when chainsaw man is not who she thinks he is and is convinced that it's someone else. which brings us to the last event!

  • THIRD EVENT: - MAKIMA'S DEATH. man, this one is important. and it's because of who manages to kill her and how. denji connects the dots and realizes that makima cannot distinguish facial features and only memorizes someone's smell if they are important to her, or at least her day-to-day activities. the entire time makima interacts with denji, she is honing in on pochita's scent, never denji's. thus, when she's weirdly cuddling up with a squishy little pochita heart in her hands, denji manages to sneak up on her and split her apart with a powered-up chainsaw— because his scent meant nothing to her and she didn't bother to make note of it. denji of all people, is the one who kills her, not chainsaw man. it is denji who literally cuts her up and makes little bento boxes of her flesh to then eat her whenever he feels like opening the fridge. someone who is so inferior, yet managed to rise above her. before she dies, makima wears a tired expression and does not fight back. she gives up. she gives up because everything that she thought, that she created in her head about who she thought she loved, was all a lie, and she didn't know how to deal with that other than accepting her fate and having all of that suffering end. she died with the feeling of being ultimately alone, which closed up her canon arc with a beautifully tragic bow— because she was understood by pochita, and she was loved by denji. her entire complex and view of the world is what kept her from seeing that.

PHILOSOPHY: makima wants to make the world a better place for humans to thrive in. how she goes about that is, of course, wrong across most human standards for what is "good". her nature as the control devil kind of influences this in a way that makima thinks the only good way to "take care of humans" is by manipulating them. she acts kind because duh, that's what humans want and react positively to. she is prone to shift herself in ways that tend to meet the needs of those that interest her just so they will stay obedient and under her wing. the truth is makima is so hilariously and desperately lonely that she'll manipulate people into showing romantic interest for her (including mind control or just regular ol' manipulation). she has convinced herself that "they love me" when their love is not real, but god damn does she want it to be real. she wants something to be real which will be better explained in the prompt below. basically, makima considers herself superior and thus takes it upon herself to be the only necessary evil actually necessary in the world by destroying everything that is 'imperfect' or ''''''bad''''''', anything that causes human suffering or discomfort of some sort, to make them 'happier. what her philosophy is is just a misplaced extension of her desire,:

DESIRES: get ready for this one. makima wants a hug with heart in it. she wants a family. she wants meaningful connections and equal relationships with others, but alas! she goes about it the completely wrong way, but this is mostly because she doesn't know any other way. makima has already stated that the way she sees humans is similar to how humans see dogs, or any other pet. she has affection for them, she's quite fond of them to the point that she does everything she can to be like them and take their 'well being' into consideration (but never quite gets it all). and how do humans think, when they love their pet? they want to take care of them. even if they are affectionate and loving, it's only natural that humans see themselves as the dominating species-- pets will never be equal because they are animals who, fortunately or unfortunately, aren't really aware of what's best for them. they're just there. alive and chilling and needing attention, and that is how makima sees people, and that is why her desire is always so far away and why she has fucking seven dogs hauled up in an apartment-- because she cannot see and understand the human being the way they truly are, with their emotions and imperfections, and will continue to be a lonely dog lady until she does.

FEARS: directly related to her desires, makima's greatest fear has to be solitude-- being alone in the world on a pedestal so high no one else has the height to reach her. she wants connection, and relationships, but humans will always have an innate fear of control and that already puts her on a greater hold of power over them (unless some himbo is really not afraid of being controlled, then we can talk), whether she wishes for that or not. she does not want to spend her now second life alone in a reality that crushed her to the point that she'd rather accept death.

GAMEPLAY

SUITABILITY:  in a game that thrives on connection and losing one's sense of control/self seems excellent in all aspects for makima, especially when i wish to explore her outside of her canon setting where i believe will give her far more opportunities for growth than what she had within the walls of her story. she is just so . . . perfect and poised and has this sense of self that is so much greater than anyone and everything that to have that challenged really puts a twist on how i can play her, and how the series of events could, with a lot of work and character interaction (and manipulation, and negative cr, surely) she could be changed an inch for the better. she is a monster as is. but will actually becoming something else be a good thing . . . . ? ðŸ¤”

SAMPLE: thread from deer country. cw: includes manipulation, mentions of death and violence.

MONSTER: makima will be harpy, based on barn owls, lanky bird creatures and demon owls. a near transformation will appear as such:

since makima is also a devil by default, i had enjoyed the idea of affecting her behavior and actions by making them a little more demonic than animalistic. this will be a callback to her original base before being raised, which includes gradual memory loss and a suffocating, toxic attempt at "care" to the point that it is malicious and harmful. i will be using some points mentioned in her previous game's corruption page, where she will have symptoms that lead up to her stalking her "prey" and honing in on isolating them to stay with her (i plan to keep that horror film-esque touch to her presence for a bit more of a monstery feel). her jealousy is grand during these final stages and she will be prone to violence against anyone who comes close to her claims ("comes close" may very well be like. standing between, breathing in direction of, etc etc).
